Our guest today is Collin Mitchell, author of The Faithful: A Novel Based on the Life of Giuseppe Verdi, the opera composer who gave the world Aida, Otello, and Falstaff. As a supporter of the unification of Italy in the 1860s, he was pleased that “Va, pensiero,” the chorus from his opera Nabucco, became an unofficial anthem of the movement.
